An entitled, nearly 30-year-old son is in for a much-needed reality check when his father breaks the news that he won't be receiving any share of his stepmother's home. The man's father has no claim in the house or her other separate property, and now, the man is grieving what he thought would be his financial safety net.

It's safe to say that one should never assume anything in this life. People come and go, we earn, and we lose money, and life is full of surprises and other curveballs we wish we could have avoided. At the end of the day, though, we need to remind ourselves that so long as we're still here, there's a reason to make every day count.

It's also easy to say all of this if you know you'll inherit 50% of your stepmother's property. Once that dream goes down the drain, everything feels greyscale. That dream vacation you were going to take with the payout from your share is all but a distant memory, and the world as you dreamed it is no longer. That's what happens when you wish upon someone else's pocket, though.

The man in this next story is dumbfounded when his father informs him that he will not be inheriting any shares of his stepmother's properties.
